Bink Newsflash 16

Hi,

Well this is the week of the launch of Windows XP! I'll be attending the launch here in Holland (Rotterdam) there we will get a live connection to see the launch in NY. If it is worth it I'll try to make some pics of the event and post them in my forum.

This newsletter is sent from the mail list system of Sunbelt Software,

Because of the success of this newsletter my server at home could not cope with the mail burst. I've been looking for an alternative and thanks to Stu Sjouwerman of  Sunbelt Software I have a perfect solution.

Stu Sjouwerman is the author of another great newsletter for NT admins: w2knews. Sunbelt uses a mailinglist tool from Lyris, not only for the w2knews-letter but also for email based discussions on a lot of IT admin subjects.

Lucky me! my little list could be added between the big lists of sunbelt software working on the professional list system of Lyris.

Have a look there if you are interested in any of these subjects.

Stu, thanks!

This is the first time I sent this via this tool, so I hope it will work the first time. If you receive this message twice I'm sorry shit happens....
Also no fancy pics this time, because I'm in a hu
rry :-)

Messenger 4.5  released!

Last night MS released Messenger 4.5, this is earlier then expected, because it was scheduled to be released on XP launch day.

Last week 2 builds leaked and seem to be not working according to the screenshots MS posted on their site (TAB functionality), but yesterday my messenger told me that the messenger servers were taken off-line for maintenance, after that the TABS began working. Few hours later the final version was on the Messenger server.

The new messenger supports grouping of your buddies and most important .NET Alerts! Unfortunately I can't set alerts yet, it redirects me to a Dutch MSN site which tells me there are no alert providers in my region :-(

So now I'm trying to get MSN to think that I live in US.

The emoticons high color now and more are added, for a list see my messenger site: http://www.bink.nu/messenger

Security hotfix for Terminal Servers 2nd release

The implementation of the Remote Data Protocol (RDP) in the terminal service in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 does not correctly handle a particular series of data packets. If such a series of packets were received by an affected server, it would cause the server to fail. The server could be put back into normal service by rebooting it, but any work in progress at the time of the attack would be lost. It would not be necessary for an attacker to be able to start a session with an affected server in order to exploit this vulnerability the only prerequisite would be the need to be able to send the correct series of packets to the RDP port on the server.
