Remote Desktop (RDP 5.1)
Remote desktop is a tool so you can take over other XP machines. This is not like tools as PCanywhere where you take over "console"
Remote Desktop uses RDP (remote desktop protocol) RDP was originally designed for Windows Terminal Servers as first seen in Windows NT 4.0 Terminal server.
Since Windows 2000 all server versions have terminal server capability. Now in XP this feature is added too on the desktop versions. Servers let you have multiple sessions, XP has only one and when connected it locks the console (screen, keyboard, mouse) on the machine being taken over.
So there is a terminal server standard in Windows XP!
The RDP client that is on the winXP CD works on every 32bit Windows. You can connect to NT4, win2k terminal servers and XP machines.
This version of RDP client is much better then the version released in win2k and in win2k sp1. It has better full screen support, it also supports sound and high color but that is only supported when connecting to XP or .NET machines. So non XP win2k administrators should get this too!
